Can RTX 4090 handle 8K?

Is RTX 3090 8K capable?

Even with the latest and greatest hardware, it can only realistically run games at 60-80 frames per second at 8K resolution. Sure, that frame rate is playable, but it's the bare minimum for most PC gamers.

The RTX 3090 is the first GPU designed for 8K gaming. A multitude of titles both past and present will easily enable you to play at 8K resolution by simply selecting 7680 x 4320 from the game's resolution selection menu.

The best example I saw of this so far is Cyberpunk 2077 running on an RTX 4090 with DLSS 3, which results in 4K gameplay at 120 fps with ray-tracing. In short, performance like the already great-looking game on PC has never experienced before.
The RTX 4090 has better specs than the RTX 3090 in all respects. It has about 50% more CUDA Cores, SMs, RT Cores, and Tensor Cores. It also has a higher base clock and boost clock than the 3090, and slightly faster memory.
Given that both cards are selling, it's unlikely NVIDIA will be motivated the drop the price on either model any time soon, especially with lower-end models presumably getting announced at or around CES. That could change, though, depending on how AMD's next-gen GPUs fare and are received.
If you're in the slim percentage of people that want the best simply because it's the best, the RTX 4090 is firmly holding that title. The RTX 4090 is much more expensive than the average PC gamer is looking to spend, but then again, it's much more than an average graphics card.
Nvidia's RTX 4090 is intensely powerful, but at the first glance, it's hard not to call it overpriced. Spending upwards of $1,600 on a graphics card is a lot, especially if you consider that you can build an entire gaming PC for the same amount of money.

Is 4090 too much for 1440p?

I've got a VRAM consumption chart, where you will truly need 16GB of VRAM at least to run 8K without DLSS enabled. The 24GB of ultra-fast GDDR6X memory on the GeForce RTX 3090 is fine, as too is the 16GB of GDDR6 memory on the AMD Radeon RX 6800, Radeon RX 6800 XT, and Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics cards.
